Stony Brook Resident Physician, Malak Iskandar, DO, Honored at Northport VA Medical Center

The Northport VA Medical Center presented its Helping Heroes award to Malak Iskandar, DO, a first year resident in the Stony Brook University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, at a ceremony on December 7, 2011 for his work during his Internal Medicine rotation at the VA Medical Center in September and October.

The award is presented to residents who have demonstrated outstanding service, based on recommendations by their attending supervisors. Dr. Iskandar was nominated by Sabahat Mahmood, MD, who is the Director of the Helping Heroes program.

In nominating Dr. Iskandar,  Dr. Mahmood described him as efficient, hard working and helpful. “He was very compassionate and caring towards the patients and their families,” she said. “Everyone on the unit respected him and spoke highly of him. It was a pleasure working with him.”
